Mother's Day was a great time in Petone. There were stories, poems and special memories shared by several. Also great coffee, hot chocolates and yummy treats. The children decorated cupcakes and special poems, then presented all women with these, chocolate & flowers. How special we all felt!

From @10 this Sunday and John 14 we discover 3 things that Jesus promises his disciples: 1. Heaven 2. Holy Spirit 3. His return Explore John 14 and look for how these promises play out in what Jesus is saying to his disciples. Go back a chapter to explore the setting Jesus is speaking to his disciples (and a few others) in. The problem with promises is we contextualise them through our world view and life experiences. We see them from our perspective and fail to grasp what the person making the promise actually intends in life promises get broken, we all break promises and have promises made to use broken. Is Jesus like us? Will He break His promises?

Today we were joined by (Majors) Rod and Jenny Carey and talked about the writing on the wall (Daniel 5). We then discussed some of the ways Daniels was able to do what was right despite the possible ramifications for him. For us there are several ways we can never tire of doing right: 1. Know what God says - Matthew 7:24 2. Fear (respect, awe, veneration) of God - Psalm 34:7-9 3. Prayer (staying connected to God) - Daniel 6:10 4. Motivation (doing right because it is right not because of what you might get) - Daniel 5:17 5. Walking with God's Spirit - Daniel 5:11 and Romans 8 6. History, learn from it! - Daniel 5:22 & 23 7. Obedience - 1 Samuel 15:22 8. Conscience - 1 Timothy 1:19 and 4:2 9. Friends - Proverbs 27:17 and 27:6

God's Presence

This morning Major Ivan Bezzant was with us and spoke to us. He asked, what sets us apart from the world? Is there anything that makes us different to the world? Is it in the way we dress? Or the things we eat? Or the songs we sing? Is there anything that sets us apart from the world, that makes us uniquely Christlike? What makes the difference? The presence of God.

If your presence doesn't take the lead here, call this trip off right now. How else will it be known that you're with me in this, with me and your people? Are you traveling with us or not? How else will we know that we're special, I and your people, among all other people on this planet Earth?

Exodus 33:15-16

Would you know if God withdrew His presence from your life? How do you find the presence of God in your life? Read Mark 9:14-29 then look again at verse 28 & 29: After arriving back home, his disciples cornered Jesus and asked, "Why couldn't we throw the demon out?" He answered, "There is no way to get rid of this kind of demon except by prayer."

When in the story do we see Jesus praying? Does Jesus stop and pray before he tells the demon where to go? We don't see that happening at all so how can Jesus say There is no way to get rid of this kind of demon except by prayer.

To know God's presence with us, to be set apart in this life we need to have a life style of prayer, undertaken in private. This is the place where we get access to God in the way Moses did in Exodus 33, this is where we call out Please. Let me see your Glory.

Dad vs Wild Report

After spending time with a group of Dad's associated with Petone I've been left impressed. Impressed by the commitment that Dad's made to spend time with their kids. Impressed by their willingness to have fun with kids. Impressed that in the busyness of life Dad's are willing to take a full 24 hours out to spend with their kids.

The building renovations are in the final stages with the wooden floor being refinished. This means everything will return to normal next week. For those of you who attend Playgroup there will be a mini version this Friday. All of the building (including the renovated parts) ARE available (new toilets and kitchen), EXCEPT the wooden floor area.
